Intrepidus's core wines come from a vineyard in Yass is planted with Shiraz, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. I’m a thorough believer in the perfect wine starts in the vineyard. So from pruning, to spraying to handpicking to making, to bottling, I’m there, with a few wine bribed friends and family in tow.
My journey looking after this vineyard started in 2021 with it’s previous owners Bob and Barb. Due to birds, disease and fire there hadn’t been any fruit harvested for several years. The first year was all about getting the vines healthy and we managed to pick half a ton of fruit. Bob having looked after the vineyard himself for years, there was always plenty of banter re my decisions, watering being one “they don’t need a bloody water.” Bob sadly passed that year and every single time we picked in 2022 it rained on us. I believe Bob was up there having a good laugh.
Fortunately I couldn’t have asked for better new owners in Pete and Amanda. Now the laughs continue along with many shrieks as our girls all run around playing in between roping them in to carry a bucket or two in exchange for many mower and tractor rides.
With a passion for Organic Viticulture, I try where possible to have minimal synthetic intervention within the vineyard. My aim is to enhance its natural ecosystems, build natural predatory insect control, enhance natural soil carbon, and increase the quality of the land, vines and wines.
I source my other varieties from like minded, fantastic growers that I work with around Hilltops, Gundagai and Canberra
